Disabled sprinter Oscar Pistorius fails in Olympics bid
South African double amputee sprinter Oscar Pistorius has failed in his bid to be selected for his country's team for the Beijing Olympic Games.
Because he hadn't reached the 45.55 seconds needed for the 400m, 21-year-old Pistorius had tried for a place in the 4x400m relay team, however, Athletics South Africa president Leonard Chuene said that four other runners had better times.
Pistorius had been given the go ahead to compete with able-bodied athletes by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in May.
It had even been suggested that the IAAF had done what they could to put off the South African selectors from choosing Pistorius, and IAAF general secretary Pierre Weiss had said that the disabled sprinter presented a danger to other contestants in the relay because of his prosthetics.
It has come as a great disappointment to Oscar Pistorius to have got this far with his bid but now to have failed.
