Disabled 400m star Oscar Pistorius fails in his Olympics bid
Disabled 400m star Oscar Pistorius, who is nicknamed "Blade Runner," hasn't succeeded in his attempt to take part in this year's Olympic Games in Beijing. The IAAF, which is athletics' governing body, decided that his artificial limbs gave him an advantage over able-bodied opponents.
Scientific research by Professor Peter Bruggemann concluded that paralympic runner Oscar Pistorius, 21, used 25% less energy than able-bodied runners who were running at the same speed.
Oscar Pistorius, who comes from South Africa says he will appeal: "I will appeal against this decision at the highest levels, while also continuing with my quest to race in the Paralympic Games and hopefully the Olympic Games."
Oscar Pistorius is likely to make his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Oscar Pistorius was only 11 months old when he had to have his legs amputated below the knee, although he only started running using the special blades four years ago but he had success straight away by winning the 200m at the Athens Paralympic Games.
