Andrew Baggaley and Sue Gilroy defend table tennis titles
Andrew Baggaley and Sue Gilroy will be able to defend their
Commonwealth Games table tennis titles after being named in England's
team for Melbourne.
Andrew Baggaley won gold medals in the men's doubles and team event on
the sport's Games debut in Manchester in 2002. Sue Gilroy won the
women's wheelchair singles title three years ago.
The 10-strong team also includes 15-year-old Paul Drinkhall and Alan Cooke, who will turn 40 during the Games next March.
Alan Cooke competed at the Seoul and Barcelona Olympics and won the
men's singles title at the 1989 Commonwealth Championships while he was
a coach at the Games three years ago.
Andrew Rushton completes the men's line-up.
England field two of the four Manchester disability medallists as Sue
Gilroy, who only dropped one set in her seven matches in Manchester, is
joined by Cathy Mitton. She won bronze at the Games and gold in the
class four category at last month's European Championships.
