Zinedine Zidane nominated for Fifa Golden Ball award

zidaneFrance's Zinedine Zidane is among those nominated for Fifa's prestigious Golden Ball award, which is given to the most valuable player at the 2006 World Cup.

Zinedine Zidane ends his career in Sunday's World Cup final against Italy.

The 10 nominees include four players from Italy, Fabio Cannavaro, Andrea Pirlo, Gianluca Zambrotta and Gianluigi Buffon.

Zinedine Zidane's fellow French players Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira are on the list and so are Germany's Michael Ballack and Miroslav Klose and Portugal's Maniche.

"It's going to be difficult to pick a winner this time," Franz Beckenbauer, Germany's organising committee president, commented.

Germany goalie Oliver Kahn was the winner of the award at the 2002 World Cup, while Brazil's Cristiano Ronaldo also took it in 1998.

Fifa will be announcing its final decision on Monday.
