Juventus director Gianluca Pessotto visited in Turin hospital by Italian football stars

pessottoItaly football stars Alessandro del Piero and Gianluca Zambrotta have left the team's World Cup camp in Germany to visit Juventus sporting director Gianluca Pessotto who is seriously ill in a Turin hospital.

Gianluca Pessotto, 35, was admitted after falling from a window at club headquarters.

And ex-Juventus player Ciro Ferrara, one of Italy's coaching staff, joined Alessandro del Piero and Gianluca Zambrotta on a private flight.

Gianluca Pessotto, a former Juventus midfielder, is not implicated in the Italian match-fixing scandal. Juventus, along with AC Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina, are all due to face a sports tribunal over this scandal.

Alessandro del Piero, Gianluca Zambrotta and Ciro Ferrara spent more than an hour at Gianluca Pessotto's hospital bedside and were returning to Italy's World Cup camp later on Wednesday.

Italy captain and Juventus defender Fabio Cannavaro walked out of a press conference at the training camp when he got the news about Gianluca Pessotto's fall.

"I'm devastated. Pessotto was the nicest guy in the world," said Fabio Cannavaro.

Gianluca Pessotto's wife Reana said he was unhappy with his position at the club and had been depressed.

Gianluca Pessotto was taken to a Turin hospital on Tuesday with multiple fractures after he fell an estimated 15 metres from a dormer window in the building's roof and a hospital official speaking on Sky Italia television said police were investigating a potential suicide attempt.
