Cristiano Ronaldo would leave Manchester United for Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo said in Marca a Spanish newspaper that he would leave Manchester United for Real Madrid.
According to the paper, Cristiano Ronaldo claims he would be talking to presidential candidate Juan Miguel Villar Mir if he wins the election. Miguel Villar Mir is a former Spanish finance minister and vice-president of the club.
"I've told my agent I am prepared to leave. I want to do it in the best way possible and dream of playing for Madrid," Cristiano Ronaldo, 21, was quoted as saying.
However, a spokeswoman for Manchester United said: "He has a deal until 2010 and is our player."
Miguel Villar Mir has previously said he had spoken to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger about becoming the Madrid coach.
And if he is trying to coax Cristiano Ronaldo away it is just like the way Florentino Perez won the club election in 2000, with the promise of signing Ronaldo's international team-mate Luis Figo from Madrid's bitter rivals Barcelona.
"Other candidates wanted me to sign a document which is not legal," said Cristiano Ronaldo.
"Villar Mir has promised me he will talk to the club and all we have done is talk through an agent.
"They have explained to me their plans and the next step is they will talk to Manchester United to open negotiations.
"Villar Mir's project is serious and follows correct procedures," Cristiano Ronaldo added.
