Newcastle footballer Joey Barton faces Football Association hearing
Newcastle footballer Joey Barton is due before a Football Association hearing on Friday on an assault charge.
26-year-old Barton had already pleaded guilty to the charge of violent conduct against team-mate Ousmane Dabo and had asked for a personal hearing.
In July, Barton was given a four-month suspended jail sentence for the assault, which happened in May of last year, when the two footballers were at Manchester City.
There is no maximum limit to what Barton could get but a very long ban and possible fine are punishments that are expected.
However, Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor has requested that the Football Association should be lenient when judging on Barton's case.
Barton has already served time in prison for attacking a teenager in Liverpool city centre whilst under the influence of alcohol. He was released in July after serving 74 days of his sentence.
