Manchester United's Wayne Rooney may recover in time

wayne rooneyManchester United football star Wayne Rooney could hopefully recover in time for the beginning of his team's Premier League campaign on 17 August. He has been suffering from a virus infection.

22-year-old Rooney caught the disease whilst on Manchester United's tour of Nigeria but he went back to training on Friday.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson explained that he is optimistic that Rooney will be fit enough in time and he said: "With seven or eight days training we might make it. He is doing much better, the medical reports are good and we feel that he's clear of the virus."

Ferguson added that the viral infection Rooney has been suffering was diagnosed by Manchester United's own medical laboratory.

He said that all the Manchester team had been given malaria tablets before they went to Africa, and they have all had the yellow fever vaccinations they required.
