England football coach Fabio Capello in corruption case
England football coach Fabio Capello is being accused by an Italian prosecutor of allegedly withholding information in a corruption trial.
Fabio Capello, 61, gave evidence as a witness in the trial of six men who were accused of conspiracy to control transfers by using intimidation to persuade players to sign for the management firm GEA.
The Italian prosecutor thinks that Fabio Capello was being deliberately evasive, however, Fabio Capello's lawyers have claimed their client was sure "he had given all the information required of him" and had done nothing wrong.
In a statement, Fabio Capello's legal representatives said: "Mr Capello made it clear that he has never been involved in the conclusion of professional football players' contracts, and has only limited and indirect knowledge of this subject."
Former Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi, who was named in Italy's match-fixing scandal in 2006, and Davide Lippi, son of the former Italy coach Marcello, are among those accused in the case.
Fabio Capello had previously worked under Luciano Moggi at Juventus until 2006, but it was when he was in charge of Roma between 1999 and 2004 the court wanted to know about.
Fabio Capello denied having been pressurised over the management of players while he was at Juventus and Roma.
Although the prosecutor is not alleging Fabio Capello was lying because at times he claimed he could not remember or recall specific details, but he is saying that the coach was being evasive in his replies.
