Six injured and one man dead in volleyball brawl in Greece
It has been reported that at least six people have been injured and a man has been killed in Greece, in a huge brawl that broke out between some 300 rival women's volleyball fans who used clubs, knives and stones to fight with.
The brawl, which occurred at the Greek capital Athens, was between fans of Olympiakos Piraeus and Panathinaikos in the Peania area and took place at a location away from the volleyball stadium.
Police are reported to have detained 18 people and the Greek press suggested that the rival volleyball fans had arranged the fight before the game.
The Ekathimerini website reports that an innocent 22-year-old man who was driving past at the time was stabbed in the leg by brawlers who attacked him even though he was in his car.
The man who died had head injuries and stab wounds, according to reports, and three shops and two cars were also damaged in the brawl.
A witness is reported to have said: "They were jumping on our car for five minutes, they were asking for our cellphones and stabbed our driver."
