World Cup-winning rugby coach Jake White may stay on
World Cup-winning rugby coach Jake White may remain with the Springboks team from South Africa, although he had earlier on talked of leaving after the final.
Jake White's contract ends in December and he had said earlier in October: "When you win the World Cup you've got to go, there is no more you can achieve."
However, now the team have made a 15-6 final victory against England, Jake White, 43, said: "I must think. I want to coach rugby. I must make a decision in everyone's best interests."
Jake White's job had been advertised two weeks ago, and he had been expected to leave, which would signal the break-up of the team on a temporary basis. This was going to be done to allow more black players into the team with the idea of being a better representation of South Africa.
But now after Jake White's victory and his return to his home country, South African president Thabo Mbeki said: "It would indeed be odd that, in the moment of victory which comes after a period of preparation, you say 'Thank you for your services, White, goodbye'."
