Welsh rugby star Gavin Henson needs ankle surgery
Welsh rugby star Gavin Henson will probably have to miss Wales' South African tour in June because he needs an operation on his ankle, after hurting it in the Ospreys' Heineken Cup quarter-final loss at Saracens on 6 April.
Ospreys physiotherapist Chris Towers explained: "The best-case scenario will see Gavin sidelined for four to six weeks. It's impossible to determine the outcome until the specialist assesses the ankle. It would be inappropriate for us to comment further."
The physio also said: "If the surgeon's examination reveals clinical instability then the plan will be to repair the ligament at that time. That would be likely to sideline Gavin for approximately 12 weeks."
Henson's ankle didn't get any better from traditional treatment for such an injury and so he has been referred to a specialist.
Gavin Henson will miss his team's three Magners League games still to go, which are against Edinburgh, Newport Gwent Dragons and Connacht.
