Wasps Mark van Gisbergen named for England squad
Wasps star Mark van Gisbergen comes closer to making his England debut
after being named in the 22-man squad to face Australia at Twickenham
on 12 November.
The New Zealand-born full-back had been hotly tipped to win a call-up
but has struggled with his form since being linked with the world
champions.
The other non-capped players are hooker Lee Mears and second row Louis Deacon.
Northampton winger Ben Cohen, who had missed out on initial selection earlier this year, is also in the 22.
Bath kicker Olly Barkley, who like Cohen failed to make coach Andy
Robinson's initial squad, looks set to be the back-up kicker to Sale's
Charlie Hodgson after Leicester stand-off Andy Goode was left out.
Other players to miss out from the 30-man squad announced last week are
Perry Freshwater, Jamie Forrester, Andy Hazell, Peter Richards, Simon
Shaw, Ollie Smith and Tom Voyce.
Simon Shaw was ruled out due to a back complaint, while flanker Joe
Worsley and lock Alex Brown weren't considered because of knee and neck
injuries respectively.
The Test against the Wallabies at Twickenham is one of three November
internationals for England and they face New Zealand and Samoa in
subsequent weeks.
