Wakefield rugby star Tevita Leo-Latu banned for racism
Wakefield rugby player Tevita Leo-Latu has been suspended for six games by the Rugby Football League (RFL) for making a racist remark to Warrington's Kevin Penny in June.
New Zealander Tevita Leo-Latu, 29, who plays as a hooker for Wakefield, was found guilty of racial abuse in a match at the Halliwell Jones stadium on 17 June.
Warrington's Kevin Penny reported the incident to a touch judge and it was then investigated by the RFL.
Wakefield rugby club have claimed they will be meeting the player and then holding a full investigation before they decide on any further action.
Tevita Leo-Latu, who joined Wakefield from Cronulla in 2006, has until 22 August to appeal, but he is still likely to miss the rest of the Super League season.
RFL executive chairman Richard Lewis explained the suspension of Tevita Leo-Latu shows how seriously they view the matter of racism in sport, and he said: "Racism will not be tolerated in any form in rugby league."
