Rugby union coach Brian Ashton in New Year Honours list
England rugby union coach Brian Ashton has made it into the New Year Honours list.
Brian Ashton, who was in charge of getting England through to the World Cup final in October, is made an MBE.
After a mixed year and a disappointing start to the Rugby World Cup, Brian Ashton's team battled their way back in style, defeating Australia and hosts France to reach the final, where they were just beaten by the Springboks.
Brian Ashton was made England coach again on an indefinite contract after a full post-World Cup review.
"I am honoured and privileged to receive an MBE.
"This award is not just for me, but for all who have been involved and helped me throughout my rugby career," Brian Ashton proudly said.
Jason Robinson, 33, had already been made an MBE for aiding England to win the 2003 World Cup but now he is in the Honours list again and Brian Ashton said: "He has contributed so much to both union and league. I am delighted for him. He thoroughly deserves his OBE."
