Rugby star Mark Regan as Barbarians captain causes row
England and Bristol rugby star Mark Regan has been named as captain of the Barbarians squad that plays against South Africa at Twickenham on Saturday but this has sparked a row.
Mark Regan has ignored Bristol over his involvement in this forthcoming game, in spite of their claim that he is in breach of contract.
Mark Regan responded: "I was asked to captain the Barbarians and I consider it a massive honour to do that."
The Barbarians have said that Mark Regan would play in the game at Twickenham despite what Bristol have said, and a Barbarians spokesman added: "He's made the decision, he wants to play and is sticking to it."
However, Bristol wanted Mark Regan to take the weekend off and Bristol chief executive David White says he is willing to take action against him.
Mike Burton, a Barbarians committee member said: "We can't deny Mark in the autumn of his career. It's his little girl's birthday and we are going to soldier it through.
"We don't want to be in conflict with anybody but we'll speak to Bristol next week and fight Mark's corner."
