Rugby star Francois Steyn charged with biting Joseph Vaka
South Africa rugby star Francois Steyn is charged with allegedly biting Tonga winger Joseph Vaka. The incident is said to have happened during Saturday's World Cup game in Lens.
Francois Steyn, 20, who plays as a back, will no doubt have to miss the rest of the tournament if he is found guilty, and this offence can carry a ban of as much as three years. The International Rugby Board's recommended penalty for biting ranges from six months to three years.
The biting was said to have taken place during an off-the-ball incident when both Francois Steyn and Joseph Vaka were sent to the sin-bin.
Francois Steyn, who plays for the Natal Sharks and who played in the Springboks' recent 36-0 win against England, is rated among South Africa's brightest rugby hopes.
Francois Steyn, along with Springboks fellow rugby players Schalk Burger and Bryan Habana, has been recently featured on the cover of the EA Sports game Rugby 08.
A date for Francois Steyn's disciplinary hearing has yet to be decided upon.
