NZ rugby star Doug Howlett punished for misconduct
New Zealand rugby union star Doug Howlett has been found guilty of serious misconduct by the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) after he jumped on two cars whilst drunk following his team's exit from the World Cup.
Doug Howlett, 29, was arrested after the incident at Heathrow Airport after their quarter-final loss to France.
No details of Doug Howlett's punishment have as yet been revealed.
Darren Shand from the NZRU explained: "Doug faced intense scrutiny over his behaviour and has faced up to his actions," and he also said that the NZRU had considered the costs paid by Doug Howlett because of the incident, his impressive career with the All Blacks and his planned relocation to Irish rugby club Munster in early 2008.
Doug Howlett said in October that he would pay compensation to the owners of the cars he damaged and he added that he felt embarrassed by his actions.
