Ireland rugby coach Eddie O'Sullivan resigns
Ireland rugby union coach Eddie O'Sullivan has resigned following a very disappointing World Cup and Six Nations campaign by his side.
Eddie O'Sullivan, 49, had guided the Irish team to three Triple Crowns during his six-year period of coaching Ireland but recently he had been under criticism for failing to get the squad at their best.
Eddie O'Sullivan is reported to have said: "Having given my role as team head coach much consideration, I have decided to step down."
Eddie O'Sullivan's recent track record took a final crushing blow when Ireland took a disappointing fourth place at the finish in the Six Nations, marking their worst championship performance since 1999.
Eddie O'Sullivan's paid his gratitude to those he had known in the sport and added in a statement: "I would like to thank my management team and all the players that I have worked with during my tenure as Irish coach. Their commitment and professionalism in representing their country has been consummate throughout."
Declan Kidney, Pat Howard, Wayne Smith, Jake White and Alan Gaffney are all possible replacements as new rugby coach for Ireland.
