Ireland rugby coach Eddie O'Sullivan re-signs until 2012
Ireland rugby coach Eddie O'Sullivan has signed a four-year renewal on his contract, which means he will be in the role until 2012.
Eddie O'Sullivan, 48, who has led Ireland to three Triple Crowns in the last four seasons, was originally hired in 2001, but extending his contract for a further four years in advance of the World Cup will no doubt be a surprise to some.
The Irish RFU has said that Eddie O'Sullivan he can coach the Irish Lions in 2009 if he was offered that job, although there had been reports saying that Irish Lions bosses want the coach to be a full-time appointment.
However, Eddie O'Sullivan explained: "Should the Lions position come my way and I'm happy to take it, they'll release me for the period necessary to do the Lions and I can come back (to the Ireland job) afterwards. That's very generous of them."
Eddie O'Sullivan's new contract means he will be in charge of the Irish team at the World Cup in 2011.
