Ireland name Declan Kidney as new rugby coach
Ireland has appointed Declan Kidney as their new rugby coach.
Kidney, 48, who has been working as coach for Munster has signed a new contract which means he will be the Ireland coach until the 2011 World Cup.
Declan Kidney will take over from Eddie O'Sullivan, who left the team in March, however, Kidney will not actually be in charge until after Ireland's summer tour, which travels to New Zealand and Australia.
In the meantime, Kidney will focus on Munster's Heineken Cup final against Toulouse on 24 May, while a temporary coach will supervise Ireland's tour. It is thought that Connacht coach Michael Bradley might be the man selected for this.
The Irish RFU have explained that the management for Ireland's matches against the Barbarians (27 May), New Zealand (7 June) and Australia (14 June) will be made soon .
Declan Kidney, who had been tipped to be the new coach ever since O'Sullivan quit, said that he was "delighted" to have the new role.
