Greg Holmes to miss Australian rugby European tour

greg holmes Front-rower Greg Holmes will have to miss out on Australia's European tour next month after failing to recover from a neck injury he suffered whilst training and will be replaced by ACT Brumbies prop Nic Henderson.

Team officials said Greg Holmes was unable to take part in any scrum sessions during the first two days of the Wallabies' four-day camp in Sydney.

"It's extremely disappointing but it is still very sore," said Greg Holmes.

The Australian team are already without their rested skipper George Gregan and his fellow scrumhalf Sam Cordingley, who was forced to withdraw with a chronic foot injury.

Sam Cordingley's replacement on the tour will be NSW Warratahs scrumhalf Josh Valentine and coach John Connolly has said Matt Giteau is likely to be tried as scrumhalf for the tour.

Matt Giteau has established himself as a centre or fly-half for Australia but began his rugby career as a scrumhalf and is set to get his chance earlier than expected after Sam Cordingley's injury.
