Gloucester rugby star Leon Lloyd retires due to injury
Gloucester rugby star Leon Lloyd has announced his retirement following his failure to recover from an injured knee.
30-year-old Lloyd was only able to make eight appearances last season, after joining the team in May 2007. Before this Leon Lloyd played for the Leicester Tigers.
Lloyd is reported to be upset that he has had to pack in his rugby career but he said: "Although I'm bitterly disappointed I think I'll look back on my career and feel incredibly fortunate,"
A Harley Street doctor had informed Lloyd on Tuesday that his knee injury meant that he wouldn't be able to play again.
Gloucester head coach Dean Ryan is very sorry to see Lloyd retire and he said: "There are very few players who have achieved what Leon has during his career and we are as disappointed and upset as he is that his career has ended in this fashion."
