Former England rugby captain Martin Corry retires
Former England rugby captain Martin Corry has announced his retirement from international sport and he has said no thank you to a place offered in coach Brian Ashton's 2008 Six Nations squad.
Martin Corry, at the age of 34, does not feel he can keep up high enough standards in both international and domestic rugby, and he was quoted in The Guardian newspaper as saying: "It's just a shame I am getting old. If I could carry on for the next 10 years I would because I genuinely love playing for Leicester and England."
Martin Corry also went on to explain: "Brian rang me to say they were going to name me in the 32 and asked if that was what I wanted. Unfortunately, I just can't keep doing it all. Something has to give if I want to keep playing to the required standard."
Martin Corry was a member of England's World Cup-winning squad in 2003 and a leading part of their run up to the World Cup final in October.
