England women's rugby tour opens with a win
England women started their New Zealand tour with an impressive
eight-try victory over Manusina Samoa in Auckland.
England scored first-half tries through Kim Shaylor, who grabbed a
hat-trick, Sue Day and Charlotte Barras.
England added further tries after the break
through Selena Rudge, Danielle Waterman and Charlotte Barras, while
Karen Andrew kicked 13 points.
"We played very well against a highly physical and strong outfit," said
coach Geoff Richards.
"Our tight five scrummaged well and there was some good flowing rugby
coming from the backs. It was an impressive team performance all
round."
England next face an Invitational New Zealand XV on 19 October, before
two Tests against reigning world champions New Zealand on 22 and 26
October.
England: Day; Barras, Staniford, Oliver, Shaylor; Andrew, Yapp; Clarke,
Garnett, Gray; Sutton, Vickers; Baker, Clayton, Jones.
Replacements: Rudge, Huxford, Alphonsi, Spencer, Waterman, Turner,
Massarella.
