Bristol punish Mark Regan for skippering the Barbarians
Bristol rugby club have said that they have punished Mark Regan for defying them when he acted as captain for the Barbarians on Saturday.
Hooker Mark Regan, 35, had been cautioned that he would be in breach of contract if he took this role, and Bristol had wanted Mark Regan to take the weekend off so he could be in good form for their Heineken Cup match against Harlequins on 8 December.
However, now after Mark Regan guided the Barbarians to a 22-5 win against South Africa, Bristol have decided to discipline him for ignoring the rules and their warning.
Bristol chief executive David White is reported to have said: "We have had a meeting with Mark and he has been sanctioned."
Bristol have not explained what Mark Regan's punishment is to be, but David White also said: "We now consider the matter closed and will not be making any further comment."
Mark Regan said he had no regrets about what he had done and wasn't sorry for ignoring the warning he was given.
