Brian Ashton to be National Academy rugby coach
Brian Ashton is going to be the new head rugby coach of the National Academy, the Rugby Football Union (RFU) chief executive Francis Baron has revealed.
Brian Ashton had been made redundant in his role as England's head coach after Martin Johnson was taken on as team manager, however, Francis Baron said: "Brian has confirmed to me his interest in taking up the new position that we have offered him."
Francis Baron said that mistakes had been made that led to Brian Ashton losing his job and Martin Johnson getting appointed instead.
Francis Baron added: "We accept in some respects that the RFU could have handled the process better and lessons have been learned. However, I do not accept that Brian has not been properly dealt with overall."
Brian Ashton had been reportedly thinking of legal action against the RFU before this.
