Australian Rugby Union to offer Lote Tuqiri new deal
The Australian Rugby Union (ARU) is about to offer Waratahs wing Lote Tuqiri a lucrative new deal, which would prevent him going back to rugby league.
Lote Tuqiri, who is set to change over to outside centre for Australia's game against Wales in Cardiff on 4 November, has been reportedly making a return to league rugby.
The ARU are said to be offering Lote Tuqiri a AU$1m-a-season contract until 2011 after his current contract expires next year.
"I think he wants to stay," said Australia head coach John Connolly.
Lote Tuqiri began playing professional rugby with the Brisbane Broncos, totalling 250 points in 99 appearances between 1999 and 2001 and he has scored 25 tries for Australia since switching codes in 2002, however, he is currently banned until 2 November for a spear tackle on New Zealand captain Richie McCaw.
After Mat Rogers' decision to return to league next year, Lote Tuqiri had suggested that he would do likewise.
Lote Tuqiri is part of the team that will be leaving for Australia's European tour on 27 October.
