Australia rugby coach rests Greg Holmes
Australian rugby coach John Connolly has left prop Greg Holmes out of a 25-man Tri-Nations squad to play against South Africa.
Greg Holmes, who is resting after starting all eight matches of the Wallabies' Tests in 2006, has been replaced by Benn Robinson and Drew Mitchell and Guy Shepherdson have been recalled after not featuring against New Zealand, who have won the series.
"By resting Greg we can give him an early start on a training programme and provide an opportunity for Robinson to compete for a place," explained John Connolly.
"The front row selections have been very close this year and we've been very conscious of broadening our squad ahead of the World Cup," John Connolly added.
Australia will be spending a week in Johannesburg as they get ready for the Test at Ellis Park on 9 September.
The line up of the Australia squad is: Al Baxter, Rodney Blake, Mark Chisholm, Rocky Elsom, Scott Fava, Mark Gerrard, Matt Giteau, George Gregan (captain), Stephen Larkham, Chris Latham, Tai McIsaac, Drew Mitchell, Stirling Mortlock (vice captain), Wycliff Palu, Jeremy Paul, Clyde Rathbone, Benn Robinson, Mat Rogers, Nathan Sharpe, Brett Sheehan, Cameron Shepherd, Guy Shepherdson, George Smith, Dan Vickerman (vice captain) and Phil Waugh.
