Indian shooters aim high at the Commonwealth Games
The Indian shooting squad are hoping to do better than the 14 gold
medals they won in 2002 at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne,
which start on 15 March.
Shooting will be one of the sports spotlighted at the Commonwealth Games.
India came top of the shooting medals table, and helped the country climb to fourth in the overall Manchester medals table.
National coach for India Sunny Thomas said: "Last time we were number one in medals and hope to head the list this time, too."
Five of their 2002 medals haul was won by Samaresh Jung, who is in
contention for eight medals in Australia. Samaresh Jung is part of the
Indian 27-strong shooting squad who are hoping to carry on their
country's steady rise in success at an international level.
Samaresh Jung, who is a federal industrial security force inspector,
has been shooting well recently and he claimed three titles in a
pre-games event in Melbourne last month.
