Zimbabwe should not return to Test cricket yet ICC says
Zimbabwe cricket team should not be permitted to return to Test cricket until they can show they can play a lot better, the International Cricket Council (ICC)'s Cricket Committee has said. The committee concluded that to allow them to do so could undermine Test Cricket's integrity.
However, the Cricket Committee also suggested Zimbabwe should be included in the next ICC Intercontinental Cup, which Ireland had recently claimed.
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar is chairman of the Cricket Committee and it is made up of a number of other important names in the world of cricket, including Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene, former Australia skipper Mark Taylor and well known umpire Simon Taufel.
The Cricket Committee's recommendations regarding Zimbabwe, however, still need the approval of the full ICC Board and the Chief Executive's Committee who will be meeting in London in July.
The Zimbabwe cricket team have not played in Tests since September 2005 but are still allowed to take part in one-day international matches.
