West Indies cricket team appoint new captain
West Indies cricket team will be announcing their choice of a new captain when the board meets on Sunday.
The new skipper will be a replacement for Brian Lara who retired from international cricket after West Indies exited the World Cup.
West Indies vice-captain Ramnaresh Sarwan is a current favourite tipped to take over the captaincy.
A West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) member explained that the selectors had already put forward their nomination for the next captain: "I'm not a liberty to divulge the name at the moment because we have to get the approval of the WICB."
And WICB chief executive Bruce Aanensen said: "The selectors said there were three people they were looking at."
Bruce Aanensen went on to explain what they expected of the new captain: "One of the things we are looking for is leadership skills. We are also looking for a guy who will command the respect of the other players on the team, not somebody who will have any influence on the younger players in particular."
