West Indies cricket skipper Chris Gayle goes home
West Indies cricket skipper Chris Gayle has had to abandon the tour to South Africa and go back home because he has broken his left thumb.
Due to his injury Chris Gayle is unable to play in any of the four one-day internationals still to be staged and which end the tour.
In fact, Chris Gayle has not taken part in a match since his thumb was broken by a ball from Andre Nel whilst playing in the second Test.
Team boss Clive Lloyd is reported to have said: "We will miss his skills... but this gives an opportunity for the younger players to show their mettle."
Chris Gayle now hopes to make a full recovery for his side's forthcoming international programme in the Caribbean, and he said: "We will be hosting Sri Lanka and Australia and the coming months and I definitely want to be 100% for those matches."
