The England & Wales Cricket Board announce Ashes Test in Cardiff

ashes The England and Wales Cricket Board has made public the details of the itinerary for next year's Ashes series against Australia and Cardiff the capital of Wales has been selected to host the first Test.

The five-Test series will begin on 8 July at the Swalec Stadium in Cardiff, with the following Test matches at Lord's, Edgbaston, Headingley and the Oval.

The Swalec Stadium was awarded Test match status in April 2006 and a £9.5m redevelopment package has increased capacity from 5,500 to 15,643.

The venues for the Tests were originally chosen in 2006 and Cardiff was a surprise choice beating off Old Trafford in Manchester.

Cardiff had more good news when it was announced that Australia would return to South Wales for a one-day international in 2010, and India play an ODI in the Welsh capital in 2011.
