Sri Lankan cricketer Upul Chandana retires
Sri Lankan cricketer Upul Chandana has decided to retire from international cricket.
Upul Chandana, 35, who is an all-rounder at the sport, said he made the choice to do this after he was left out of the team for the World Cup and the World Twenty20.
It has been speculated that Upul Chandana may have done so with the intention of now joining the rebel Indian Cricket League but he has denied this.
Upul Chandana is reported to have explained his reasons to retire in this way: "My decision to retire was not related to the ICL tournament. It is purely because I was not given the opportunity to play for Sri Lanka."
And Upul Chandana went on to add: "I played well during last season so I expected to be selected for the Sri Lanka team for the World Cup. Failing that I was hopeful about the Twenty20.
"After the Twenty20 team was announced I decided to retire from international games as I no longer was given opportunities to represent my country.
"I think I did not get fair treatment. That is why I made this decision."
