Sri Lanka's Murali out of ICC World Twenty20
Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan will have to miss the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 because of an injured elbow, and leg-spinner Malinga Bandara will probably replace him.
Muttiah Muralitharan is said to have complained of pain between his right elbow and shoulder after bowling for Lancashire against Kent on Wednesday, and Sri Lanka Cricket secretary Kangadaran Mathivanan confirmed: "Murali is affected by an elbow injury and he will be out for four to six weeks."
Muttiah Muralitharan appears very unlikely to play any further part in Lancashire's game against Kent and a statement by the club explained: "Murali has a bicep strain and is currently undergoing treatment. We are waiting for the results of a scan to determine the extent of his injury."
Murali could also miss out on the one-day international series against England in early October, although he should have recovered in time for the two Tests against Australia in November.
