South Africa cricket executive Gerald Majola launches binge probe
South Africa cricket board's chief executive Gerald Majola has called for an investigation into reports of a drinking binge among several cricketers last weekend in the pubs and nightclubs in Grenada after the side had lost to New Zealand.
However, captain Graeme Smith said: "I have no problem if players go out after a game and blow off some steam."
A South African cricket fan had phoned a Johannesburg radio station to complain that a group of players were out in the early hours and claimed they were "highly intoxicated".
But Graeme Smith wasn't very concerned with the matter and added: "I don't really have much to comment on that.
"The fact is that it's a long tournament with a lot of pressure and if players need to relax a bit at times, I have no issue with that.
"We have drinking rules - no drinking two days before a match - and as long as they are not broken then that's fine with me."
