Shoaib Malik named as new Pakistan cricket captain
All-rounder cricketer Shoaib Malik has been announced as the new captain of the Pakistan cricket team.
Shoaib Malik, 25, has played 18 Tests and 137 one-day internationals so far in his impressive career, and will be replacing Inzamam-ul-Haq who resigned.
Shoaib Malik, has been appointed Pakistan cricket captain for 2007 and his first job is going to be a series with Sri Lanka in May when a three-match one-day series with the Sri Lankans is due to take place in Abu Dhabi.
Shoaib Malik, who has been batsman in a variety of positions and is credited as an all-rounder, made 148 in Sri Lanka in 2006.
Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf told a media conference the official news, when speaking of Shoaib Malik, he said: "He has been appointed as captain with the future of Pakistan cricket in mind."
Former skipper Imran Khan also supported the choice of a having Shoaib Malik as the new Pakistan captain.
