gary Gary Kirsten, who used to be a batsman for South Africa, has been named as the new coach for India and has signed a two-year deal starting from March 2008.

Gary Kirsten, 40, has signed although he is reported to have had some initial reservations about the attitude of some cricketers in the team.

On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed that Gary Kirsten has agreed to be the new coach.

Gary Kirsten said proudly: "It will be a great honour to coach the game's most passionately supported team."
