Pakistan Cricket Board wants to postpone a tour by Zimbabwe
The Pakistan Cricket Board are seeking to postpone a tour by Zimbabwe, which is dueto take place in September this year because Zimbabwe are not currently playing Test cricket and so the proposed tour would only include three one-day games.
Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan said a lack of interest from sponsors and television companies meant that such a series was not financially viable.
"We are going to write to them to postpone their tour until 2008," explained Shaharyar Khan.
He also said there was a need for Pakistan's players to rest before the ICC Champions Trophy in India in October and November and a home series against West Indies and that this was another reason behind their decision.
Shaharyar Khan has promised a review of the central contracts system after receiving a request from national team captain Inzamam-ul-Haq.
At present they are getting monthly payments ranging from £664 to £1,772, plus match fees for each Test and one-day international but Inzamam said the sums were not enough to make the players "financially secure".
However, Shaharyar Khan stated that there was no "demand or pressure" from the players for a pay rise, but bonuses for a win was a possibility.
