Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Naseem Ashraf resigns

ashraf Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Naseem Ashraf has announced his retirement following his team's exit from the World Cup and defeats by the West Indies and Ireland.

The national team selection committee with chief selector Wasim Bari and his two fellow selectors have also done the same as Nasreem Ashraf's and resigned as well. Former Test left-arm spinner Iqbal Qasim and medium fast bowler Ehteshamuddin were the selectors who have quit.

Pakistan Cricket Board communications director Ahsan Malik confirmed Nasreem Ashraf's resignation and it is only five months after he had taken over from Shaharyar Khan who was the previous chairman.

Wasim Bari explained that he and the other selectors who had resigned did so over their shared responsibility for Pakistan's fortunes, which had not been good of late: "The committee's tenure was up to the 2007 World Cup and it shares responsibility for the team's performance in the World Cup."

"We just thought morally we were bound to do this."
