North West Cricket Union chairman Bob Kerr dies
Chairman of the North West Cricket Union and former president of the Irish Cricket Union Bob Kerr died suddenly on the island resort of Ocho Rios in Jamaica, just days after the World Cup victory against Pakistan, and with the recent death of Bob Woolmer comes as a double loss to the world of cricket.
Bob Kerr had played as opening batsman for the Irish North Fermanagh and Dungannon in the North West league and had continued being active in the sport into his 50s.
Ireland cricket coach Adrian Birrell, paying tribute to Bob Kerr, described him as "a great ambassador for Irish cricket," and he added: "This is tragic news, and on behalf of the entire squad and management, I'd like to pass on our sympathy and condolences to his wife Hope, and his family circle."
And a stunned former ICU Chairman Joe Doherty said: "Bob has given outstanding service to Irish cricket at club, provincial, and national level, holding almost every senior position in the land with distinction."
