Indian cricketer Saurav Ganguly could play Duleep
Former Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly, who has been suffering from early
tennis elbow symptoms, is getting better and could take part in East
Zone's Duleep trophy outing against North Zone from October 20,
according to his doctor.
"He is improving. If this trends continues, and he responds to
the treatment, then I see no reason why he can't play the Duleep match
at Rajkot," orthopaedic surgeon Kalyan Mukherjee said in Kolkata on
Sunday.
However, the final decision on whether Ganguly can take part in the
match would be taken by Indian cricket board-authorised sports medicine
expert Dr. Anant Joshi, who has an appointment with Saurav Ganguly in
Mumbai on October 18.
The Indian team's physiotherapist John Gloster would also be there when Dr. Joshi examines Saurav Ganguly's injured elbow.
Saurav Ganguly, who has been using a 'Chinese patch' on the
injured right elbow, would also not have to wear it any more, the
doctor said. Saurav Ganguly has continued his fitness routine, spending
two hours at a ground near his home.
Saurav Ganguly, who missed the Challenger series in Mohali and
was stripped of his Indian captaincy by the selectors, has also been
kept out of the first two ODIs versus Sri Lanka. He will have to prove
his fitness by playing a domestic match.
Saurav Ganguly had an earlier date with Joshi and Gloster on
October 7 after his "mild tennis elbow symptom", as diagnosed by Dr.
Joshi, surfaced for the first time during the Indian team's tour of
Zimbabwe. Saurav Ganguly had been advised ten days' rest before
reassessment of the condition.
