India name batsman Sachin Tendulkar for cricket squad for Sri Lanka
India have named cricketer Sachin Tendulkar as part of their 15-man squad for next month's triangular one-day series in Sri Lanka.
Sachin Tendulkar, 33, missed the tour of the Caribbean due to a shoulder problem but was passed fit on Tuesday.
And batsman Dinesh Mongia has been recalled after more than a year, while seamer Rudra Pratap Singh is also back in action on the field.
However, leg-spinner Anil Kumble and batsmen Robin Uthappa and Venugopal Rao were omitted from the selection for the series, which begins in Colombo on 14 August.
Sachin Tendulkar's return was expected, having proved his fitness playing charity matches for Kent-based invitational side Lashings and an International XI against Pakistan.
Sachin Tendulkar underwent surgery in March and had to sit out the home one-day series against England and the Tests and one-day internationals against the West Indies.
"There's no question on his fitness," chairman of selectors Kiran More explained. "He was sure to be in the team once he was cleared. You can't have doubts about such a great player."
