India cricket skipper Rahul Dravid resigns
Skipper of India cricket team and batsman Rahul Dravid has sent in his resignation from the job of captain.
Rahul Dravid, 34, sent a letter tendering his resignation to Board of Control president Sharad Pawar, it has been reported.
But Rahul Dravid is not retiring from cricket, just resigning as captain and he said on Indian television: "I want to concentrate on my own game. I will still give full co-operation to the team as a senior player and batsman."
Rahul Dravid became captain of India in October 2005, and has acted in that role for India in 25 Tests as well as 79 one-day internationals, but now he feels he has had enough and Sharad Pawar explained to the press: "In the last few days, he has told me the captaincy was affecting his game. He said he can't handle both responsibilities."
The Board of Control now faces a difficult decision as to who should captain India in the forthcoming series against Australia and Pakistan, but are hoping to have settled on a replacement for Rahul Dravid next week.
