English bowler Liam Plunkett gets ban for drink-driving
English bowler Liam Plunkett has been given a 20-month driving ban after he admitted drink-driving.
Liam Plunkett, 21, who had played in England's one-day series win over Australia, had been breathalysed after he crashed into another vehicle after he had left Yarm's Tall Trees nightclub in October, magistrates at Teeside court were told on Monday.
Liam Plunkett had more than twice the legal limit for alcohol in his body at the time of the offence, having a reading of 172mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.
After his court appearance, Liam Plunkett admitted he had behaved irresponsibly and made an apology to his family and teammates and he said: "I am deeply sorry for what I did and there is simply no excuse for it. I acted irresponsibly.
"I would also like to apologise to my family, friends, team mates and coaches for the embarrassment I have caused them."
