England cricketer Steve Harmison severely injured
England cricketer Steve Harmison will be unable to play in the Durham's Friends Provident Trophy final against Hampshire on Saturday due to a severe injury.
Steve Harmison, 28, injured his back during the Championship game against Surrey and scans have ruled him out of taking part in his county's debut Lord's final.
A disappointed Steve Harmison said: "The severity of the injury has surprised everyone and the timing couldn't be worse,
"Having played for Durham through the lean years I was looking forward to making my mark and I'm heartbroken."
Steve Harmison, who plays as a paceman, only recently made a comeback following recovery from hernia surgery, which had ruled him out for the Test series against India.
Two hospital scans have shown internal bleeding in Steve Harmison's back probably due to a torn muscle and he will now be re-assessed to determine how long he will be sidelined for.
