England cricket legend Ian Botham knighted
The Queen has knighted former England cricket legend Ian Botham.
Through long-distance walks, including several from Land's End to John O'Groats, Ian Botham has helped to considerably increase the survival rate of leukaemia sufferers and he has raised more than £10m for leukaemia charities.
Nicknamed "Beefy," Ian Botham, 51, made his name as a colourful all-rounder, who played 102 Tests for England in a career spanning 1974 to 1993.
In his impressive career as a cricketer Ian Botham took 383 wickets, setting an unbroken English record, and scored 5,200 runs.
Ian Botham is reported to have said proudly: "I'm delighted and very honoured, not just for myself but also the people who have helped me get there,
"There'll be a very good party. It will be a very proud moment for me to go to Buckingham Palace again."
Ian Botham was already honoured with an OBE in 1992.
