England cricket captain Michael Vaughan injured
England were worried about their captain Michael Vaughan ahead of the
first Test against Pakistan starting on Saturday after he suffered an
injury to his knee.
Michael Vaughan was batting with Andrew Strauss when he twisted his
right knee as he completed a run. He retired from the game and was
driven to hospital for examination.
After collapsing at the crease on Monday in Lahore, Michael Vaughan was
attended to at the wicket and had the joint iced and strapped before
being ferried to hospital.
England were batting against Pakistan A in Lahore, in their final innings ahead of the first Test in Multan.
Michael Vaughan hurt the same knee - and missed a Test - 18
months ago and it happened when he was struck by a ball in the nets at
Lord's ahead of the first Test against New Zealand.
Michael Vaughan also had surgery on the same knee in September 2002 to repair torn cartilage.
In an ironic twist of fate, Michael Vaughan's injury opened the door on
that occasion for Andrew Strauss to begin a Test career that has been
studded with success.
