England captain Michael Vaughan fit for Faisalbad
England cricket captain Michael Vaughan has been declared fit to play
in the second Test against Pakistan starting on Sunday in Faisalabad at
0430 GMT.
Michael Vaughan, who missed the Multan defeat, said: "I thought the
tour was over for me last week, but it is amazing that these things can
turn around.
"There is a slight risk if I do play but I'm willing to take that risk."
Michael Vaughan has had past trouble with his knee joint, and made it worse during a Pakistan tour game.
England are 1-0 down in the series with two matches to play, so the
tourists will have been given a major boost by Michael Vaughan's
well-being.
Michael Vaughan added: "I can feel the knee a little bit but not enough
to miss the game. It has been a good week for me. It has kept getting
better.
"The most important thing is that I am confident I can get through a game.
"We've worked hard on it the last few days, and I'll have to work hard throughout the Test on making sure I look after it.
"I don't see it being a massive risk - and the position we are in now
in the series, I think it is one that might be worth taking."
Michael Vaughan paid tribute to England physiotherapist Kirk Russell,
saying: "He has worked almost day and night to try and get it right,
and I am glad to be playing again, because I did not like watching."
Paul Collingwood - without a half-century in four Test appearances - is
the cricketer likely to make way for the skipper's return and Michael
Vaughan is likely to bat at his normal number three position, with
either Ian Bell or Kevin Pietersen taking the spot at number four.
